Eqvalan Wormer Paste for Horses & Donkeys

Eqvalan is an ivermectin horse wormer that effectively targets most common worm infestations, such as redworm, pinworm and bots, but excluding tapeworms and encysted small redworms. Eqvalan Paste also provides effective protection against lungworm in both horses and donkeys. If you require additional coverage against tapeworms then Eqvalan Duo would be an appropriate choice.

When to Use

Implement a strategic worming plan that involves determining the worm burden of each horse, treating only those horses with a high faecal worm egg count, and using accurate doses based on the horses weight. New horses should be wormed and quarantined for 24-48 hours before being turned out into pasture. Its also important to know the optimal time to treat key parasites and treat horses from the same pasture individually, according to their worm count. A horse worm egg count can be used for this purpose.

Avoid Spillage Near Dogs & Cats

The active ingredient, ivermectin, makes this product highly efficient. However, it should be administered with care to avoid exposure to non-target animals like dogs and cats.

Resistance

To prevent resistance development, practices like frequent use of anthelmintics from the same class or underdosing should be avoided.

Safety Precautions

No specific precautions are required for animals, but safety measures should be taken by the person administering the product, such as avoiding smoking, eating or drinking during handling and washing hands after use. Adverse reactions may occur in heavily infested horses, but these usually resolve within a few days.

Safe to Use

Eqvalan is safe to use in horses and donkeys of all ages, including pregnant mares and breeding stallions, and is compatible with other equine health care products. Administer orally at a recommended dose of 0.2 mg ivermectin per kilogram of body weight.

For effective parasite control in horses, all animals should be included in a regular worming program. Overdosing can lead to various symptoms, but these are typically mild and transitory.
